Crosby Stills Nash & Young - Deja‘ Vu (1970)
For his first pick of 2021 for an album that has "been around awhile," Shane selected the CSNY classic Deja' Vu, released in 1970. Of all of the albums Shane and Trevor have selected for a deep dive thus far, Deja' Vu may hold the most history for both of them. Trevor and Shane have childhood memories of being exposed to this album by their folks back in the day. Though the songs themselves were familiar, diving into the stories behind this iconic album were what made this episode stand out most. From interpersonal rift, drugs, relationship issues, and even death, Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young had their share of struggles putting this classic album together. All wrapped up in these stories are the historical perspectives that resulted from social and political unrest and their antidote in musical form, the movement that was Laurel Canyon, and Woodstock. Shane and Trevor had fun unwrapping these stories and applying them to their own lives and today's social climate.
